Read moreIn 2012, an extremely rare species of vygie, Jordaaniela anemoniflora, was declared extinct in the wild after losing its battle against urbanization in Hermanus, Macassar, and Strand. Specimens have been preserved at botanical gardens such as Kirstenbosch. There is currently a project to reintroduce the plant to the grounds of a military base that is near to its original Macassar habitat.
